‘The Beginning’: The perfect start to your festive season

30 November - 5 December

We’re thrilled to bring you our second light show: The Beginning

The Beginning will take you on an uplifting journey, telling the Nativity story through spectacular lights and music, projected onto our historical stone walls.

Delight in the joy and wonder of Christmas as the Cathedral’s facade is transformed, and come inside to be immersed in a stunning sensory experience of light and sound, inspired by the Cathedral’s historic stained-glass windows.

‘The Angels are Coming’ was evocative, spine-tingling and just wonderful. And to have the rest of the building lit only by candlelight was inspired. I don’t think I have ever seen the Cathedral look so beautiful.

Praise for ‘The Angels are Coming’ in 2019

Incredible visit to see ‘The Angels are Coming’ at Sheffield Cathedral tonight. Truly one of the best things I’ve seen and the music was gorgeous.
Fab evening at Sheffield Cathedral with the angels. Heaven reaching out and touching earth.
The most beautiful and uplifting event I have ever seen in this city. What a showcase for the City and the Cathedral.

Collaboration with Luxmuralis

‘The Beginning’ has been created for Sheffield Cathedral by Luxmuralis, the team that brought us ‘The Angels are Coming’ in December 2019 and ‘The Observatory’ in March 2020.

We are delighted to return to the Cathedral and present this new adapted work this Christmas. The Sheffield audience is fantastic and the city comes alive during advent. We look forward to working with the Cathedral team and seeing individuals and families return to the building and enjoy the uplifting light show and beautiful music.
— Peter Walker, Artistic Director of Luxmuralis

Previous work by Luxmuralis has seen imaginative light projections in Germany, Italy and the UK at various locations including The Bodleian Library, Lichfield Cathedral, Liverpool Cathedral and St Albans Cathedral.

That was the best experience of my life
Absolutely fantastic, so thought provoking simply beautiful!
So inspirational. Highly recommended.
