Non-Executive Chapter Member and Chair of Finance Committee

Sheffield Cathedral is ‘A Place for All People’ and our Chapter members help shape the strategic direction of the Cathedral, ensuring our mission is resourced and governed with wisdom, integrity and purpose.

We are now seeking a Non-Executive Chapter Member, who will also serve as Chair of the Finance Committee, to join our governance team.

This voluntary role is ideal for someone with senior-level financial or business experience who is passionate about the life and mission of the Church, and is committed to using their gifts to support the Cathedral’s ministry.

As a Chapter Member and Finance Chair, you will:

  • Provide oversight and leadership of the Cathedral’s financial strategy and controls

  • Chair the Finance Committee, which reports to Chapter on financial performance and planning

  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Finance Manager to ensure robust and transparent financial processes

  • Contribute fully to Chapter’s responsibilities for governance, vision-setting and strategic decision-making

  • Act as a critical friend and advocate for the Cathedral’s work, both within and beyond the Church

Chapter currently meets around ten times a year, with plans to reduce this to six. Members are expected to attend meetings fully prepared and to chair or serve on committees relevant to their expertise.

This appointment is for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal. Travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with Cathedral policy. The role is subject to references and an enhanced DBS check.
