Threads Through the Cross Draws Visitors from Across the UK

Sheffield Cathedral’s summer exhibition, Threads Through the Cross, has been captivating visitors since it opened last week.

The monumental textile installation by renowned artist Jacqui Parkinson fills the nave with vibrant, hand-stitched panels exploring the themes of crucifixion and resurrection. Each panel combines bold colour, intricate detail, and layered symbolism to tell a story that is both sacred and deeply human.

Since opening, the exhibition has received glowing feedback from visitors who have praised its scale, artistry, and thought-provoking nature. One visitor said:

“You don’t realise how big the tapestries are until you’re standing right under them. They are so detailed, and there’s so much to take in — I think I’ll have to come back to see the exhibition again.”

The Very Reverend Abi Thompson, Dean of Sheffield Cathedral, said:

“It’s a real honour for Sheffield Cathedral to host Threads through the Cross. We strive to be a place for all people, a hub of community, creativity and compassion, and this exhibition brings those values beautifully to life. Jacqui Parkinson’s work opens up sacred stories in ways that are bold, human and deeply moving. It invites reflection, sparks imagination, and speaks across boundaries of belief or background.

We’re proud to offer this extraordinary exhibition in the heart of our city, freely accessible to all. We hope everyone who visits leaves feeling welcomed, uplifted and inspired.”

The exhibition runs until 22 September 2025, offering visitors plenty of time to experience its beauty and depth. Entry is free, with donations welcomed to support the Cathedral’s work.

Whether you’re a lover of art, history, or simply seeking a moment of stillness in the heart of the city, Threads Through the Cross offers a visual and emotional experience not to be missed.
