Tom Daggett
Director of Music and Schools Singing Programme
Tom Daggett is the Director of Music and Schools Singing Programme at Sheffield Cathedral, where he directs the Cathedral Choir in services, concerts and civic events, as well as bringing singing to partner schools often in the most deprived areas in Sheffield. Before moving to South Yorkshire, Tom spent nine years at St Pauls Cathedral, where he created and developed a music programme for thousands of London children. Tom has broad experience with children’s and youth choirs, and was founding director of Hackney Choral (including the Hackney Children’s Choir). Tom held organ scholarships at Blackburn Cathedral and Lincoln College, Oxford.
James Mitchell
Cathedral Organist and Director of Keyboard Studies
James Mitchell is the Cathedral Organist and Director of Keyboard Studies at Sheffield Cathedral, where he plays for all the cathedral services. Prior to this role, he was Sub-Organist at Gloucester Cathedral for two years. He has a special interest in new music and his book The Pipe Organ: A Composer’s Guide has recently been published by Oxford University Press. He has also worked with a wide variety of both classical and non-classical artists and composers, including Jethro Tull and US producer Courtney Swain.
Caroline Slade
Choral Director
Caroline is an experienced singer and conductor, and has taught Music in over one hundred schools. She has previously worked for Diocese of Leeds Music Schools Singing Programme (now the National Schools Singing Programme), and also led the schools programme and Probationer Chorister programme at Bradford Cathedral. Caroline has also delivered specialist teacher training and has lectured at the University of Reading. Some of Caroline’s career highlights include winning three bronze medals at the World Choir Games in Latvia, and singing for the BBC Proms. She joined Sheffield Cathedral in 2024, and teaches in three of our partner schools as well as singing in the Cathedral Choir.
Jonathan Pinto
Choral Director
Jonathan Pinto is a tenor and organist who has worked with a diverse range of children in sacred and secular performance settings in India and in the UK. He has sung and conducted youth choirs at local and international events of sacred choral music, including at the International Federation of Pueri Cantores. He has also taught music in his own education programme for children in Mumbai. He studied piano performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Sacred Music at the University of St Andrews.
Beth Winter
Director, Little Lights Choir
Beth Winter is the director of the Cathedral’s Little Lights Choir as well as teaching at the Sheffield branch of Rhythm Time, providing music classes for children from new-born to pre-school age at the Cathedral. She was previously Head of Music at Ralph Thoresby School in Leeds and has taught music at Castleton CE Primary School. She also sings in the Cathedral Choir and was previously one of the interim conductors of the choir before the arrival of Tom Daggett. She earned a PCGE from the University of Bristol and graduated with First-Class honours in Music from Cardiff University.
Victoria Awobajo
Chaperone, Little Lights Choir
Victoria Awobajo is the regular chaperone for Little Lights, assisting Beth Winter with supervising and looking after the children, as well as regularly chaperoning Rhythm Time at the Cathedral. Outside of her Cathedral role, she is a junior doctor at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
Emily Cooper
Music and Liturgy Administrator
Emily Cooper is one of the Music and Liturgy Administrators at Sheffield Cathedral, supporting both the musicians and clergy in delivering the Cathedral’s mission. She also sings in the Cathedral Choir. Emily is currently a PhD student at the University of Sheffield, with her thesis examining the social, physical and mental benefits of group singing for people with chronic health conditions. Her research has included a placement with the new Sheffield branch of the Choir With No Name, a choir working with people impacted by homelessness and marginalisation, which she has supported as a volunteer since its inception.
Claire Gordon-Brown
Music and Liturgy Administrator
Claire Gordon-Brown is our other Music and Liturgy Administrator, working with Emily Cooper in supporting the musicians and clergy. Claire graduated with honours from University College, Oxford in 2023 and has recently completed an MA in Vocal Performance from the University of York. Outside of her role, she works as a singer and a community music facilitator across Yorkshire.
