Sheffield Cathedral Marks National Recovery Month

September is National Recovery Month, a time to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and celebrate the strength of recovery. At Sheffield Cathedral, this cause is close to our hearts, as we continue to be A Place for All People.

We will hold a Recovery Memorial Service on Wednesday 24 September at 7pm, led by Dean Abi Thompson and Tim Renshaw, CEO of the Archer Project. This moving service will celebrate the courage of those who have overcome addiction and found new life, while also remembering those whose lives have been scarred or lost. Together, we will light candles to mark difficult times and honour those we love. Music will be provided by the Cathedral Choir and The Choir with No Name, helping us capture both the sadness and the joy of recovery. All are welcome, with refreshments served afterwards in the Nave.

Alongside this, the Cathedral will host the Sheffield Inclusive Recovery Cities Stories Exhibition from 24–30 September, sharing powerful personal stories of resilience and hope from across our city. Find out more about the exhibition here.

On Thursday 25 September, writer Tracey Ford will launch her memoir Blood Is Thicker Than Alcohol – a moving story of addiction, recovery, and transformation, told with honesty and courage. Click here to learn more about the book launch.
