We are pleased to announce a special service marking the installation of Revd Dr Jeremy Worthen as Canon Chancellor at Sheffield Cathedral, on Sunday 13 September at 4pm.
Jeremy joins the Cathedral after nearly six years as Team Rector of Ashford Town Parish in the Diocese of Canterbury, one of the largest parishes in the country by population.
Following his curacy in the Diocese of Rochester, Jeremy moved to Canterbury in 1997 to join the staff of what was then the South East Institute for Theological Education, now St Augustine’s College of Theology. There, he taught theology at undergraduate level, prepared candidates for ordained ministry, and later became Principal in 2005.
In 2014, Jeremy moved to Church House Westminster to serve as Secretary for Ecumenical Relations and Theology at the Church of England’s Council for Christian Unity.
Prior to ordination, Jeremy spent four years in Toronto studying for a doctorate in medieval studies. He has since published two books and numerous articles exploring theology and spirituality.
Speaking about his new role, Jeremy said:
“I’m looking forward very much to being part of the life of Sheffield Cathedral. There’s so much that’s happening here, and I’m excited about helping the cathedral community to keep growing in its ministry to the city and its role within the diocese. As Canon Chancellor, I’ll have a particular focus on increasing the opportunities we offer to explore new horizons and learn more about what makes us ‘a place for all people’.”

“We’re really excited to welcome Jeremy to Sheffield Cathedral. The role of Canon Chancellor is new to Sheffield Cathedral, and he will be focussing especially on our education work, heritage, arts and hospitality as well as supporting our journey towards greater financial stability. He has exactly the right skills and experience for this exciting and challenging role, and I’m really looking forward to praying and working alongside him.”
The Dean and Chapter of Sheffield Cathedral extends a warm welcome to Jeremy and invite the public to join Choral Evensong at 4pm on Sunday 13 September.
