Free Feel-Good Singalong Comes to Sheffield Cathedral
Your Favourite Songs from School Assembly – Reimagined for Grown-Ups
Looking for something completely different to do in Sheffield? On Sunday 1 June, Sheffield Cathedral is throwing it back to the school hall days with Back to the Bangers – a free evening of nostalgic singalong fun, glow sticks, live piano and all your favourite childhood songs… from Shine Jesus Shine to This Little Light of Mine.
The Reverend Canon Justin Dodd, at Sheffield Cathedral, said
"We wanted to create an event that brings people together in a way that’s joyful, unexpected and uniquely Sheffield. Back to the Bangers is all about connection — uniting our amazing community through shared memories, uplifting music, and a bit of light-hearted fun. It’s a chance to sing your heart out, support a brilliant local cause, and remember just how powerful music can be when we experience it together."
Whether you were front row in choir or miming in the back, Back to the Bangers invites everyone to relive the magic (and the chaos) of primary school assemblies – this time with on-screen lyrics, a fully stocked bar, and no uniform required.
The event is free to attend, with collection points throughout the evening to raise funds for the Archer Project, a Sheffield-based charity supporting people facing homelessness.
Expect an uplifting evening in the stunning surroundings of Sheffield Cathedral, with complimentary glow stick bracelets, big singalong energy, and that warm fuzzy feeling that only a roomful of grown-ups belting out He's Got the Whole World in His Hands can provide.
The event also forms part of the international Thy Kingdom Come movement, which encourages community and connection through creativity and reflection.
No tickets or registration required – just turn up and tune in.
