Wall of Reflection ahead of the National Day of Reflection

We are inviting people from Sheffield and the wider community to honour and remember loved ones by adding their names to a special Wall of Reflection as part of the National Day of Reflection.

Led by end-of-life charity Marie Curie, the Cathedral’s Wall of Reflection is one of a UK-wide series of tributes being created to mark the National Day of Reflection on 23 March – a day to reflect on the lives of the people who have died during the last two years and support the millions of people who are grieving, whether from Covid or any other cause.

A chance to reflect, grieve, remember and celebrate

You will be able to add your memories of loved ones and prayers to our Wall of Reflection from 10 March through to 23 March, and also in a Memorial Book which will remain open until 30 October.

Covid and the challenges of the last two years has impacted on us all. And although we are now learning to live with Covid, people are still grieving from the loss of loved ones. It is important we provide a place to soothe this pain and to give people the chance to reflect, to grieve, to remember and to celebrate their family and friends who are no longer with us.
— The Very Reverend Abi Thompson, Dean of Sheffield Cathedral

Service of Reflection

A memorial service will take place in the Cathedral at 5pm on the National Day of Reflection with music and the opportunity to light a candle for loved ones. At the end of October, the traditional time of year for remembering those we have lost, the Cathedral will be holding a further memorial service to enable the community to come together to mourn those we have lost over the past few years.
