From 16 September to 12 December this year, Sheffield Cathedral will be one of 5 venues taking part in Going Public: International Art Collectors in Sheffield. The project will comprise of exhibitions at the Cathedral, Millennium Gallery, Graves Gallery, Site Gallery and Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery.
It is designed to begin a debate about "the role public galleries and private collections play in bringing great art to everyone".
An Evening in the Art Gallery
The Cathedral will host installations by Jake and Dinos Chapman and Maurizio Cattelan, among other leading contemporary artists drawn from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection.
In preparation for the event, The Dean of Sheffield, The Very Reverend Peter Bradley, will be leading a workshop called ‘An Evening in the Art Gallery’. This will include time to view reproductions of some of the artworks and discuss how the Cathedral community might respond to the exhibition. Some of the artworks are very unusual and thought provoking and so it should be a lively evening!
There will also be an opportunity to taste food from the region of Italy where the artworks come from.
The workshop takes place at 7:30pm on Wednesday 29th July and costs £3 per person, payable on the evening. Please sign up to attend in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
