Three Cathedral Choirs Concert with Special Guest Gabriel Jackson

10 June 2010

The second Summer Music and Arts Festival will end on a high with the almighty sound of the Cathedral Choirs from Blackburn, Sheffield and St John the Divine, New York who are joined by composer Gabriel Jackson to celebrate composition for choirs. Highlights of the programme include Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb and Jackson’s own Salve Regina.

The culmination of the evening will be the announcement of the winner of the Composition Competition hosted by the Friends of Sheffield Cathedral. Over the past few months students from the University of Sheffield have been given the task of composing a new work for the Sheffield Cathedral Choir to learn and perform.

Neil Taylor Master of Music at Sheffield Cathedral says “We are extremely excited, not only to welcome distinguished composer Gabriel Jackson, but also to host the Cathedral Choirs of Blackburn and St John the Divine, New York City.  The concert will feature works by Gabriel, together with music by other composers from whom he has taken inspiration”.
