Sheffield Cathedral, a place for all people
Illustrated Guide of Sheffield Cathedral

Illustrated Guide of Sheffield Cathedral

20 July 2010

A new Guide Book of our city’s oldest and most historic building, Sheffield Cathedral, will be launched this week following months of development by the Friends and volunteers of the Cathedral.

The Guide Book is beautifully illustrated with images of the many facets and features of the building which still hold significant historic value today.

Peter Bradley, Dean of Sheffield Cathedral said, “In the Cathedral’s mission to be “a place for all people”, the Guide Book will be a useful resource for visitors, schools and groups entering the Cathedral who wish to gain a comprehensive insight into the wonders hidden away in this impressive building.”

Funding for the creation of the Guide Book came from the Heritage Lottery Fund with support from the Friends of Sheffield Cathedral. It has been designed and published by Heritage Inspired: south yorkshire's faith tourism initiative, and is available from the Cathedral Reception for just £3.50 each.

The money raised from the sale of the book will enable future work of this kind to be developed and updated in the future.

Editorial notes

Heritage Lottery Fund

Using money raised through the National Lottery, since 1994 the Heritage Lottery Fund has not only revitalised hundreds of museums, parks, historic buildings, landscapes and wildlife sites, but has also given new meaning to heritage itself. People from every walk of life are now involved with the heritage that inspires them, making choices about what they want to keep and share from the past, for future generations. HLF has supported more than 33,900 projects, allocating over £4.4billion across the UK, including £341million to more than 2,500 projects across the Yorkshire and the Humber region alone.
