The Very Reverend Peter Bradley says “Christmas has been celebrated at Sheffield Cathedral for over 1000 years. Here carols have been sung, crib scenes admired, Christmas trees decorated and the Christ child welcomed into the world down the centuries of Sheffield’s history. Those who come here for their Christmas meal or party are standing in that long tradition of celebration. They are also, though their support of the Cathedral Archer Project’s catering business, helping those in our city who like Jesus and his family, are without a home at Christmas”.
The Cathedral is Sheffield’s oldest building, the ancient heart of a great city and flourishing diocese. The life of this Cathedral is rich and varied; it is the seat of the Bishop and a centre of worship for the Diocese of Sheffield, serving the whole of South Yorkshire.
Sheffield Cathedral is open every day of the year and there is no admission charge.
There are services every weekday as well as on Sundays, and there is a varied programme of educational and social events. The Cathedral is a thriving venue for music-making, much of it by our own choir within the great choral tradition of English cathedrals.
The Cathedral has changed much over the centuries, but its mission remains the same: to be a place of sanctuary and meeting, of exploration and excellence; a place for all people.

In 2007, £6,219,597.86¹ money had been raised and the refurbished Cathedral and newly built Community Resource Centre and Cathedral Archer Project were opened to the public.
To date, over 200 local businesses and community groups have used the facilities at the Resource Centre, generating an income of £500,000.
The conferencing facilities are regarded as some of the best in the City and the hospitality staff are continually praised for their customer service skills and efficiency when managing the booking process and dealing with visitors; a key focus area for the Cathedral.
