70 people attend launch event for Cathedral’s new website

Last week Sheffield Cathedral held an event in the West End and 1554 Gallery to launch the switch on of their new website www.sheffieldcathedral.org.  The new site incorporates 21st century technology including blogs, video streaming, a virtual tour and opportunities to make online donations and purchases in the online shop.

The launch event was attended by 70 people from across the city, businesses, schools and other user groups who were entertained by a jazz duo before receiving a short presentation from Clair Day, director of Seven Creative, the local company who were commissioned to build the site.  There were test hub areas set up for guests to access the site there and then and the Cathedral Archer Project showcased their Christmas Menu cooked by Chef, Colin McFarlane.

Clair Day commented, “Developing the new Sheffield Cathedral website has been an exciting, interesting and thoroughly enjoyable experience for us. Not only have we had the chance to meet and work with some great people, but we have learnt more about the heritage of one of our City's finest buildings. We've even been places in the building that most people don't get to go, although with one of those being the roof, we're guessing most people wouldn't want to!

The staff and clergy at the Cathedral are extremely forward thinking and embrace technology with open arms. This has meant that there have been no boundaries to what we could incorporate into the project, as illustrated by the fact that even the Dean is now happily blogging and tweeting!"

Peter Bradley, Dean of Sheffield said, “The evening worked really well and we were pleased with the response and feedback about the site on the night.  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was a great opportunity to present the many aspects of what we do here to so many people”

Once the formalities were completed indoors, guests were invited to join Cllr Diane Leek for official switch on of the sparkly lights on the Forecourt. Councillor Leek, Chair of the Central Community Assembly, said: “We are thrilled that Community Assembly funding has been used in this way to make a beautiful area of the city feel safer and more pleasant in the evenings. People have been telling us that they wish this area was a bit more welcoming after dark, and Community Assemblies are all about giving the people of Sheffield the opportunity to make a difference to the things that matter to them.”
