Film Screening of 'It's a Wonderful Life'

Sheffield Cathedral is looking forward to screening the old classic It’s a Wonderful Life this Thursday at 19.30hrs.

As part of the Cathedral’s new strategic vision, we are committed to developing the use of the Nave for a range of arts and cultural events. Following the success of a number of silent movie screenings as part of the Cathedral’s annual Arts Festival, we decided to try to find an upbeat film appropriate for the season. Using our online page on Sheffield Forum, we asked the general public for film suggestions, and, after some discussion, it became clear that It’s a Wonderful Life was the film they most wanted to see screened at the Cathedral.

The Very Revd Peter Bradley, Dean of Sheffield, was particularly keen on this film. “It's a Wonderful Life is the story of a banking collapse with a twist: instead of putting up taxes and cutting services it leads to the community renewing itself,” he said. “It's a sentimental story, but it does offer hope that even in a time of cutbacks we can build a city where there's a place for everyone.”

So for food for thought, bring your family and friends and enjoy this enchanting Christmas film, screened against the backdrop of Sheffield’s wonderful Cathedral.

Doors open at 19.00hrs; refreshments are available to buy, and tickets include a free mince pie.Tickets £5 (£4 concessions).
