Cathedral Easter Celebrations to start with a bang!

A spectacular rooftop firework display will herald the start of Sheffield Anglican Cathedral’s Easter celebrations on Easter Eve, Saturday 23 April. After a service led by the Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft, the congregation of several hundred will move onto the Cathedral forecourt just after 8.30pm for the firework display.

Dr Croft will be back at the Cathedral the following day to preach at the Easter Eucharist at 10.30am. At this service the Cathedral choir, under Director of Music Neil Taylor, will be joined by an orchestra for Mozart’s Coronation Mass – appropriately enough during the week of a royal wedding!

Prayers for Prince William and Kate Middleton will be said at Choral Evensong at 3.00pm on Easter Day, a service which will be attended by The Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Mr David Moody.

Canon Simon Cowling, the Cathedral’s Precentor, said today, “The Cathedral is looking forward to a wonderful weekend of Easter celebrations and we welcome everyone to join us.
