Sheffield Cathedral has been awarded a grant of £1,337,600 by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the cost of our Place for all People Project, it was announced on Thursday 04 October.

We are issuing an invitation to anyone who wants to come to Explore God's Mercy this Lent. Bishop Steven will be leading five sessions in Sheffield Cathedral on the Wednesday evenings in Lent. Bishop Cyril will be leading similar sessions on the same evenings in Doncaster Minster and Archdeacon Martyn Snow will be doing the same in Rotherham Minster.

Sheffield Cathedral is delighted to have been able to commission Ben Parry to write a new carol for the Cathedral Choir. Christ’s Nativity, with a text by Henry Vaughan, will be given its first performance on Christmas Eve in Sheffield Cathedral at the popular Service of Lessons and Carols

Sheffield Cathedral is preparing for a real South Yorkshire Christmas. This Sunday (19 December) at 18.30 hrs, the Cathedral’s choir will combine with Ella Taylor, BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year 2010, to sing local, traditional carols, as well as pieces from Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols.

Congratulations to one of our former choristers, Ella Taylor, 16, who has made it through to the 2010 final of BBC Radio 2's Chorister of the Year at St Paul's Cathedral in London. Ella, who is now studying on a music scholarship at Lancing College in Sussex, sang with the Cathedral choir for six years until this summer.

Show of Hands performed with Miranda Sykes on 6 November at the Cathedral. Support act from Jackie Oates. It's the first time the Cathedral has provided a venue for a folk concert, this is considerably different from the usual music performances played at the Cathedral.

A Sheffield teenager has sung her way to success to be presented with the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Choristers Of The Year prize in this special Silver Jubilee anniversary year of the Competition. A chorister from Durham won the prize for the boys category.

Last week Sheffield Cathedral held an event in the West End and 1554 Gallery to launch the switch on of their new website www.sheffieldcathedral.org. The new site incorporates 21st century technology including blogs, video streaming, a virtual tour and opportunities to make online donations and purchases in the online shop.
