Sheffield Cathedral has been established for over a thousand years as a centre of worship, community and learning in the heart of the city. It is an interesting and complex building which bears witness to the whole history of the region in its architecture and features. As Sheffield’s only significant Grade 1 listed building the Cathedral provides a unique learning resource suitable for visitors of all ages.
We are committed to providing learning opportunities for all groups. Our aim is to offer a meaningful and rewarding visit within this historical building, using the church and its chapels as a focus. Children in schools, young people, students in further education and adult learners are all welcome. Sheffield Cathedral is an ideal resource for developing understanding in a range of subjects such as history, art, geography and religious education.
Learning and education are a vital part of our mission. We offer free guided visits that are planned by an experienced teacher and led by trained guides. Our guides work with small groups that allow our visitors to touch, see and discover parts of this historic building.
We work with all ages, faiths and abilities, and welcome schools, young people and adult groups from all over the country. In our multi-cultural society, Sheffield Cathedral provides a place to not only learn about the past, but to also understand what the Christian religion means today. Visits here become a vital experience, especially for young people, many of whom have never been inside a church or a cathedral or may not have an understanding of the Christian faith.
Adult learning is also an important part of our mission. We offer a range of one-off events, lectures, courses and meetings to help people learn more about the Christian faith and its relationship with people's lives. Here you can find out what is currently on offer.
