A gift for the future

Leaving a legacy to Sheffield Cathedral

Leaving a legacy enables you to make a positive contribution after your life has ended, to the future of a place or need which you believe in and value.

Your gift, whether money, your house or some of your possessions, however small or large, can make a huge difference to the sustainability and future growth of Sheffield Cathedral.

Here are some examples of how your legacy can make a difference to Sheffield Cathedral:

Conserve our magnificent heritage building and develop it for future use by all the people of Sheffield

Increase our outreach work with young people, schools and communities

Develop our contribution to the rich tradition of Cathedral music

Cultivate a wider range of activities to engage more people to experience what the Cathedral has to offer

Our Promise

Our promise to you is that we will use your donation with integrity and honesty, to benefit all who worship and visit here for many years to come.

We understand that speaking about death and planning for when we are gone can be a difficult and emotional subject for you and your family to consider, and that a non-judgmental and non-pressured environment is vital when you are making decisions about your finances.

If you are considering making a Gift for the Future to Sheffield Cathedral, we encourage you to return the confidential ‘record of interest’ form back to our Legacy Officer.  The Legacy Officer will contact you to discuss the process in more detail and arrange a time to meet should you wish to do so.

Making Your Will

Leaving a gift to Sheffield Cathedral in your will shows that you care about the ministry of the Church in Sheffield, the preservation of our heritage and the Cathedral’s mission to be ‘a place for all people’.

The money you give as a legacy will not be included when your estate (your money, possessions and property)  is valued for Inheritance Tax purposes.

Gifts made to a charity in the seven years before your death are exempt from Inheritance Tax and all cash donations can be gift aided.

If you wish to make a legacy to Sheffield Cathedral, we recommend that you contact a solicitor about making a will or amending your existing will.
