Sheffield Cathedral, a place for all people
Artists rendering of the new Cathedral flooring

Centenary Project

The year 2014 will be the centenary of the Diocese of Sheffield, and also the centenary of the creation of Sheffield Cathedral from the former Sheffield Parish Church. We hope to celebrate it in a renewed Cathedral interior, improved and updated to enable the Cathedral better to serve the 21st century city.

The Centenary Project is the name we have given to the refurbishment of the Cathedral nave. We plan to take out the pews, many of which are broken, take up the floor, and completely replace the failing heating system, installing new pipes and a new energy efficient boiler. We will then install a new stone floor, and flexible bench seating. Steps inside the Cathedral will be removed, so that wheelchair users will be able to access more areas of the building.

When the renewal is complete, the Cathedral will not only be a place of inspiring worship and peaceful prayer, it will be able to host a wide range of events and groups in its warm and flexible interior.

We have been promised generous financial support for this project by the Church Burgesses Trust, to whom we are immensely grateful, but we are also seeking support from other sources. If you would like to help or would like more information, please contact the Dean on .
