Sheffield Cathedral has hosted and promoted a number of high profile events, concerts and arts exhibitions at the Cathedral over the last few years
Events have included film screenings, concerts, spoken word presentations, arts installations, visual arts exhibitions and formal dinners. All of these have been enhanced by the majestic surroundings of Sheffield Cathedral.
Detailed below is key information for anyone interested in bringing an event to the Cathedral.
The stage within the Cathedral can realistically be extended to cover a space of 7m x 7m x 0.6m (height). Additional staging can be provided to create a drum riser. A number of music societies have used a much greater space to accommodate performers than this, with up to 120 singers and musicians taking part in a number of recent events.
The loading facility for the Cathedral is via the Cathedral forecourt; access into the Cathedral is level just a few metres away from the performance area within the Church.
Parking close to the loading bay into the Cathedral is available by prior arrangement.
The Cathedral Nave has an audience capacity of 550 people (subject to number of performers). A number of spaces within the Cathedral are suited to much smaller audiences of between 40 and 100 people. All concerts within the Nave use the pews to provide the majority of the seating for the Cathedral.
We can arrange equipment hire at reduced rates from a number of reputable local suppliers. Please note that for safety reasons any equipment brought into the venues must be accompanied by a P.A.T. certificate.
We are open to take deliveries or load in bands from 14.00 onwards Monday to Friday and from 12.00 on a Saturday. It is expected that production teams are able to schedule load in and sound checks around the Cathedral's programme of worship which means that between 16.00 and 16.30 (Evening Prayer, Monday) and 17.45 and 18.30 hrs (Evensong, Tuesday to Friday in term time) no activity can take place within the Nave.
We request that all production is de-rigged and taken off the premises straight after the event.
Parking for up to 2 tour buses can be arranged for St James Street which is adjacent to the Cathedral and a limited number of car parking spaces are available within the Cathedral's own car park (maximum of 3 after 16.00) subject to prior negotiuation with the Cathedral. The Cathedral is located within 100 metres of a number of NCP car parks. Local on-street parking is metered but free between the hours of 18.30 and 07.00.
The Cathedral is able to provide all stewarding for events. In addition for music concerts and special events we also employ an S.I.A. licensed security team with both male and female supervisors, who offer pleasant, personable and a professional service. The venue also has a fully digital CCTV system.
The Cathedral is able to source experienced sound and light engineers for a concert (at an additional charge) to work with the event organiser on any event held within the Cathedral.
The Cathedral has a number of screens and projectors available as required for a performance. The Cathedral works closely with a number of audio visual specialists who are able to supply and install additional equipment if desired.
The Cathedral has 2 main changing rooms back stage with other spaces available if needed. Within the Cathedral complex spaces can be set up for production offices, additional changing facilities and green rooms. Tea and coffee making facilities, fridges, laundry and shower faculties are also available on site.
Culinary requirements can be met in house through the catering team of the Cathedral Archer Project with menus available ranging from cold buffets to fine dining. If it is preferred the Cathedral, through a number of local contacts, is able to provide a range of international cuisine.
The Cathedral has a washing machine and tumble dryer on the premises which are available for use after 14.00 each day. Washing powder and detergent can be used.
Sheffield Cathedral is located at the heart of the city centre opposite Fargarte, the city's major shopping precinct, and adjacent to the main Supertam stop in the city. It is within a short walking distance of the bus station, train station and all major bus routes into the city. Both Universities are within a 10 minutes walk of the Cathedral.
Sheffield Cathedral is committed to making all events held at the venue run as smoothly and successfully as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any special requirements. We will always do our best to be accommodating.
The Cathedral is being licensed to accommodate events up to midnight each day. The Cathedral is able to consider applying for an extension to this licence through negotiation with the event organiser.
The Cathedral has wheelchair access throughout the majority of the building. The Cathedral has 2 wheelchair friendly lavatories within the complex for use by visitors to the building and also has 2 wheelchairs on site if assistance is required by a visitor to the Cathedral.
The Cathedral has an extensive range of premium spirits, liqueurs, beers, fine wines and soft drinks. We are more than happy to consider the provision of specific drinks to meet the requirements of a particular event, for example to supply award-winning Pale Rider ale, brewed locally from Sheffield's Kelham Island Brewery.
VAT will be included on all the service fees quoted.
Any proposed venue dressing needs to have prior agreement with the Cathedral. The key considerations when deciding on the suitability of dressing are the appropriateness of the dressing proposed within the place of worship and whether the erection of the dressing will impact negatively on any service scheduled to take place within the Cathedral.
