Exhibiting at Sheffield Cathedral

Sheffield Cathedral is a stimulating and inspiring creative space for producing and displaying works of art. Let Sheffield Cathedral be the backdrop/canvas to complement your work.

We are always keen to encourage new artists and anyone considering exhibiting in Sheffield.

There are various spaces available within the Cathedral to hire for an exhibition; the West End, 1554 Gallery and the Burrows Transept.

2010 saw Open-Up Sheffield exhibting, in which four artists displayed in various media. Artists included Paul Floyd Blake, winner of the National Portrait Gallery prize in 2009,whose “Give us a sign”, a photographic exhibition on Church signs was displayed in the Burrows Transept.
Look out for further details of Open Up Sheffield returning for 2011.

The Sheffield Children’s Festival 2010 saw the Cathedral host an installation of Golden Starlings, 1200 sprayed golden birds, including a gold plated bird, courtesy of Sheffield Assay Office The birds were made by local schoolchildren from polymorph to represent a flock, and the frame was hung from the Cathedral nave.

In addition to the installation the Children’s Festival hosted an exhibition from Art in the Park about the Golden Starlings and a Haiku exhibition displaying the poems written by local school children.

Each year Sheffield Photographic Society hosts its annual photographic exhibition in the 1554 Gallery.

Sheffield Cathedral is working closely with Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Museums to create a full artistic program of exhibitions to be displayed throughout the year; see our Events Calendar  for what’s on and availability of hosting an exhibition at Sheffield Cathedral.
