The Sheffield Cathedral community

Welcome to the community of Sheffield Cathedral, the heart and soul of our Church.

Many different people and groups make up the community associated with Sheffield Cathedral. Not all of them belong to the Church of England or are even Christians. The Cathedral community includes its clergy and staff, members of the congregation, volunteers, Friends and Patrons.

There are also many others associated with the Cathedral in a range of ways – local schools, the Chamber of Commerce, the Diocese of Sheffield and the Church Burgesses Trust, for example.

In this section you can find out more about who we all are, and about ways you can join in with each one.  You can read about:

The Diocese of Sheffield

The Diocese of Sheffield spans much further than the City limits, covering roughly the area of South Yorkshire. This is where the Bishop of Sheffield has his seat. We are part of the Church of England.

The Church Burgesses Trust

The Trust was set up nearly 450 years ago, granted by Mary Tudor.  It is now a multi-purpose charity which allocates funds to support the Church of England, learning, the needy and the local community.

The School of Ministry

The School of Ministry uses the Cathedral facilities to train lay readers, pastoral workers, parish evangelists, children and youth leaders within the Diocese.

Mothers' Union

The Mothers' Union is an international Christian charity that supports families worldwide.  The Sheffield branch runs programmes and projects that support the local community as well as being involved at an international level.

The Sanctuary Guild

The Sanctuary Guild is responsible for the care, repair and design of vestments and embroidery within the Cathedral.

Sing!

Sing! is a music community outreach programme which endeavours to help children to discover music and voice through school visits, concerts, training and singing groups.

If you would like to get involved in supporting or volunteering at the Cathedral please see our How you can help section.
